“The idea comes from the wine that comes in screw offs lids. The wine culture is so vast and funny to me. I get so much inspiration from so many sayings and term analogies and people – what they prefer and how they prefer it, their demeanour and their attitude. I think a lot of my work just puts a magnifying glass on a situation. But with alcohol you can watch a transformation happen, a shift, you can start a night with a group and an hour later the attitude is completely changed for the most part. It’s better for people when they are looser, enjoying each other’s company more. As the night goes on the characters come out.
Sometimes the idea hits you, then you think I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. An entire painting based on the concept of wine bottles that have a screw off top – all from a comment made at a dinner party. When those windows of opportunity open, you gotta jump through”
Biography
